Personal message from William Shatner:

"Regardless of the characters I portray on TV and on the big screen, my tinnitus once buried me in a negative place where many of you are now - or have been. Believe me when I say, 'I've been there.'

The harsh reality of tinnitus has robbed silence from the lives of nearly 50 million Americans. Whether you hear it in your ears or in your head tinnitus means the same thing - noise that does not go away. But know this: you do not suffer alone.

My tinnitus began while I was filming the Star Trek episode “Arena.” I was standing too close to a special effects explosion and it resulted in tinnitus. There were days when I didn’t know how I would survive the agony. I was so tormented by the screeching in my head I really thought I would not be able to go on. But then a ray of light burst into my life – the American Tinnitus Association. The help they gave me literally saved my life.

ATA works with the best and the brightest scientists throughout the world who are investigating this terrible condition. What’s unique about ATA is that they give us all the opportunity to do something about tinnitus; they make it possible for ANYONE to contribute and support research that is moving us toward a cure.

I believe we CAN achieve this goal! I encourage you to join me in making a generous donation to the American Tinnitus Association. Its dedicated staff and volunteers are here for us today, helping us live with our tinnitus and supporting innovative research. Eventually, they will bring the good news of silence back into our lives. We must band together on this journey to help fund our critically-needed association so that one day, not one single person will ever have to bear the agony and distress of tinnitus.

From the bottom of my heart … thank you for your help." - William Shatner

Original art from Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo comic art)
Stan Sakai created Usagi Yojimbo over 25 years ago, and the comic is currently published by Dark Horse Comics. Literally meaning "Rabbit Bodyguard, Usagi Yojimbo is set in the beginning of Edo period Feudal Japan (early 17th century) with anthropomorphic animals replacing humans, and features a ronin rabbit, Miyamoto Usagi. He wanders the land as a shugyosha (student warrior on a pilgrimage) occasionally selling his services as a yojimbo (bodyguard). Hence the title "Usagi Yojimbo". The character of Usagi has been inspired by the famous Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi while the tone and inspirations of the stories are heavily influenced by Groo the Wanderer, Lone Wolf and Cub and the films of the acclaimed director Akira Kurosawa.

Stan donated this original piece, done in ink, watercolor, and cell vinyl, to the American Tinnitus Association with the help of Dark Horse Comics.

Original comic book art is highly collectible! Don't miss the opportunity to own this truly spectacular piece!

For fans of the TV series M*A*S*H, this is a candid photo of Larry Linville with his then wife Melissa. Autographed by Melissa, AKA “Mrs. Frank Burns,” this is a unique item to add to a collection.

From IMDB.com: Contrary to his much-maligned character Frank Burns, Linville was actually well-liked by his M*A*S*H cast-mates. Alan Alda also remembered Linville fondly, after his untimely death due to cancer in 2000.

Al provided the following story for the Walk to Silence Tinnitus, which was held this past summer. Al's team helped raise money for tinnitus research, which is where the proceeds of this auction will also be directed. Here is Al's story:

"I remember having tinnitus my whole life, but I was just too young to explain it. I was only seven years old and had a fall that resulted in a fractured skull. From that the perception of the tinnitus had kicked in. When I think back now, it makes total sense. I truly believe that some of us are more prone to the tinnitus gene that could be switched on in some kind of unfortunate circumstance like mine. My exposure to loud music definitely made things far worse!

When I began touring as a musician in 1974, the amplifier speaker was a foot away from the piano Chick Corea was playing. As I was standing right next to him those high percussive piano keys would almost knock me over! That’s damage for life, right there. Add that to 30 plus years of live concerts and studio headphones!

The amount of hearing damage that all musicians have is more than you could imagine. Some of us have just a certain loss, but others might have an affliction like a constant ringing that never goes way, ever. That’s tinnitus. Right now, it can never get any better. Unless we help fund research into a cure for tinnitus it will be something we have to endure constantly.

There are things you can do to keep it from getting worse, and that’s what I have done to be able to keep touring. I still have the urge to play electric, and I do now and then, but the appeal of a drummer playing at full volume and big giant amplifiers? Just the thought of it makes me cringe. It’s not only a thing of danger, it just doesn’t appeal to me very much."
