Archer package (DVD & photos)

Sometimes described as "James Bond meets Arrested Development," the quirky, animated FX Network show Archer has taken tinnitus under its wing. In recent episodes, when Archer fired a gun indoors, he complained of severe tinnitus, noting that he would need a sound generator to help him sleep at night. Set at the International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS) in New York City, suave but incredibly self-centered master spy Sterling Archer deals with global espionage; his domineering mother/boss, Malory Archer; his ex-girlfriend (and fellow ISIS agent), Lana Kane; her and a less-than-masculine code name, "Duchess". This auction includes a copy of the Season 1 DVD, autographed by series creator Adam Reed, and a limited print created by Reed and his team to be given to family members.  This print has never been offered to the public, and was provided to ATA by Reed and co-executive producer, Matt Thompson.  ATA would like to thank Adam and Matt for their help in spreading awareness of tinnitus.

Al Di Meola Autographed PRS guitar – Paul Reed Smith

A longtime supporter of the American Tinnitus Association, this is the second autographed guitar that Al has donated for ATA's research auctions. This time it is a PRS Custom 22 in the Amber Sunburst color pattern.  PRS guitars are renowned for their quality and sound, and this is PRS' entry level model, and a very affordable opportunity to own something signed by jazz legend Al Di Meola. Includes durable nylon guitar bag with shoulder straps as well as a Certificate of Authenticity from the American Tinnitus Association.

Al provided the following story for the Walk to Silence Tinnitus, which was held this past summer.  Al's team helped raise money for tinnitus research, which is where the proceeds of this auction will also be directed. Here is Al's story:

"I remember having tinnitus my whole life, but I was just too young to explain it. I was only seven years old and had a fall that resulted in a fractured skull. From that, the perception of the tinnitus had kicked in. When I think back now, it makes total sense. I truly believe that some of us are more prone to the tinnitus gene that could be switched on in some kind of unfortunate circumstance like mine. My exposure to loud music definitely made things far worse!

When I began touring as a musician in 1974, the amplifier speaker was a foot away from the piano Chick Corea was playing. As I was standing right next to him those high percussive piano keys would almost knock me over!  That’s damage for life, right there. Add that to 30 plus years of live concerts and studio headphones!

The amount of hearing damage that all musicians have is more than you could imagine. Some of us have just a certain loss, but others might have an affliction like a constant ringing that never goes way, ever. That’s tinnitus. Right now, it can never get any better. Unless we help fund research into a cure for tinnitus it will be something we have to endure constantly.

There are things you can do to keep it from getting worse, and that’s what I have done to be able to keep touring. I still have the urge to play electric, and I do now and then, but the appeal of a drummer playing at full volume and big giant amplifiers? Just the thought of it makes me cringe.  It’s not only a thing of danger, it just doesn’t appeal to me very much."

PRS Specs for the SE Custom 22:
Playability That Won't Break the Bank
Featuring a mahogany body with maple top and flamed maple veneer, a three-piece Wide Fat neck with rosewood fingerboard and moon inlays, PRS-designed pickups and chrome hardware, the SE Custom 22 provides utility and quality at a reasonable price.

HFS Pickups
Originally meaning Hot, Fat and Screams, the HFS features a powerful ceramic magnet and hot coils for an aggressive tone when cranked, clear highs, searing midrange and thumping bass.
The SE Custom produces a wide range of tonal possibilities enhanced by a variety of switching options including master volume, master tone, and 3-way toggle pickup selector.

Wide Fat Neck
The Wide Fat neck has the same nut width as the Wide Thin neck but has a big comfortable profile, similar to PRS's Regular neck. Because of its strength and longer "heel," the Wide Fat neck produces warm tones with lots of sustain.

PRS Stoptail Bridge
Designed to take full advantage of the resonant properties of their guitars, PRS's Stoptail Bridge provides direct transmission of string vibration to the guitar body and makes set-up a breeze. First used in 1991 on the PRS Dragon I guitar, it now appears on almost half of all PRS guitars sold. This bridge features slots that recess the strings comfortably as they pass over the top, in a gentle curve. Although it is pre-compensated for modern string gauges, fine-tuning is possible by adjusting the set screws at each end of the bridge.

Finish
PRS finishes their instruments with a polyester basecoat and acrylic urethane topcoat. Acrylic urethane looks and feels the closest to the old nitro-cellulose finishes but without the finish checking.
The PRS Mission Statement
Guitar building is an ongoing process of discovery. We are devoted to the guitar's rich heritage while committed to new technologies that will enrich our products with uncompromised tone, playability and beauty. Our success depends on our ability to listen, implement positive change and continually refine our craft. Believing this, we strive to build the best guitars and guitar products possible and to serve our employees, customers, suppliers and community with distinction.

Personal Message from William Shatner:
"Regardless of the characters I portray on TV and on the big screen, my tinnitus once buried me in a negative place where many of you are now - or have been. Believe me when I say, 'I've been there.'

The harsh reality of tinnitus has robbed silence from the lives of nearly 50 million Americans. Whether you hear it in your ears or in your head tinnitus means the same thing - noise that does not go away. But know this: you do not suffer alone.
My tinnitus began while I was filming the Star Trek episode “Arena.” I was standing too close to a special effects explosion and it resulted in tinnitus. There were days when I didn’t know how I would survive the agony. I was so tormented by the screeching in my head I really thought I would not be able to go on. But then a ray of light burst into my life – the American Tinnitus Association. The help they gave me literally saved my life.

ATA works with the best and the brightest scientists throughout the world who are investigating this terrible condition. What’s unique about ATA is that they give us all the opportunity to do something about tinnitus; they make it possible for ANYONE to contribute and support research that is moving us toward a cure.

I believe we CAN achieve this goal! I encourage you to join me in making a generous donation to the American Tinnitus Association. Its dedicated staff and volunteers are here for us today, helping us live with our tinnitus and supporting innovative research. Eventually, they will bring the good news of silence back into our lives. We must band together on this journey to help fund our critically-needed association so that one day, not one single person will ever have to bear the agony and distress of tinnitus.

From the bottom of my heart … thank you for your help."
