Note from the group leader(s):
"This is the first of a couple of meetings that we have been anticipating for a few months. We have briefly talked about biofeedback and some of you may have tried it for other types of problems. Briefly defined, biofeedback is a process that enables an individual to learn how to change physiological activity for the purposes of improving health and performance. Precise instruments measure physiological activity such as brainwaves, heart function, breathing, muscle activity, and skin temperature. These instruments rapidly and accurately 'feed back' information to the user. The presentation of this information - in conjunction with changes in thinking, emotions, and behavior - supports desired physiological changes. Over time, these changes can endure without continued use of an instrument. We are hoping to use biofeedback as an integrative approach to solve some of the problems associated with tinnitus and hyperacusis.
Dr. Peck will give us some background information on biofeedback and talk about the use of an integrative medical approach to improving our health generally and specifically how we will be using it for tinnitus. We will be demonstrating the equipment at a future meeting.
Our meetings are free and open to the public and provide support for people with tinnitus and hyperacusis and their significant others. Current information on tinnitus treatments are presented along with discussion of coping with and managing the problems associated with tinnitus and hyperacusis."
Please let the group leaders know if you will be attending the meeting: Malvina Levy, Au.D. (mclevyaud@pacbell.net) and Tracy Peck, Au.D.
