Note from the group leader(s):
"There have been some interesting articles on noise recently in the media. In addition to what we already understand about how noise can affect our hearing and tinnitus, an article ("Working or Playing Indoors, New Yorkers Face an Unabated Roar") talks about how loud sound levels are used to affect eating and drinking behaviors in restaurants and clubs. They report on research that indicates that loud music caused patrons to eat and drink at a faster pace resulting in increased revenue for the venue but dangerous and annoying hearing levels for the patrons. I'll bring the article for those of you who have not seen it.
There was also another article in the New York Times about how difficult it is to understand what people are saying in a noisy environment once you already have a hearing loss.
We will talk about sound levels in our environment and how best to deal with them at our meeting. If you have seen any interesting articles that you want to discuss, please bring them to our meetings.
While we were off during the month of July there was an interesting research article on tinnitus etiology and another on "Evidence about the Effectiveness of Treatments Related to Tinnitus". I will also bring these to our meeting.
Please let us know if you will be attending the meeting. ~Malvina Levy, Au.D. and Tracy Peck, Au.D."
