A personal note from Tom:

"This cd incorporates lilting soft tones from a unique set of chimes with an additional assortment of ethnic chimes, bells and instruments from Southeast Asia and Africa. The artisans are the gentle breezes that make many of these instruments resonate. And, the sounds drift like the winds to take your mind away from the tinnitus in your head.

Chimes and bells are free form, not regulated by a structure like music. This is the spirit of this cd. The wind creates the instrumentals naturally. Perhaps this is why it is so easy to listen to as a background for long periods. 

Finding sounds that can pleasantly fill the deadly silence that allows us to focus on our tinnitus can be a challenge. I began to create various sounds in an attempt to ease my own tinnitus and noise sensitivity. After finding success with chimes, I realized they may be helpful to others as well.

Diverting the brain from focusing on the sounds in your head and eliminating stress are two of the best ways to ease the pain of tinnitus. This cd incorporates both. Hopefully you find them relaxing, enjoyable and helpful, too.

Five years ago I woke to screaming noises in my head, later to learn they were called tinnitus.  Hyperacusis was a new word I also learned, meaning a tremendous sensitivity to sound. This combination seemed unbearable. In the aftermath, I have been able to carve out a new life, starting bit by bit, using the principles of habituation developed by Dr. Jack Vernon, and consistently carried on in spirit and practice at the OHSU Tinnitus Clinic and the American Tinnitus Association, of which he founded.
