The spring issue of Tinnitus Today is a very special publication. It is a celebration of ATA’s 40-year anniversary. We discuss ATA’s early formation, leadership, research, support groups and other activities. And complement all with photographs and interesting and fun facts. We will continue this celebration in the next two 2011 issues of Tinnitus Today.

This Spring, we also celebrate and pay tribute to Jack Vernon, Ph.D., co-founder of ATA and the rock star of the tinnitus research world. Jack blazed a treatment trail with his development of the tinnitus masker. We also honor Mary Meikle, Ph.D., Jack’s wife, for her research work in the field of tinnitus and her engaging and giving spirit. Sadly, both Jack and Mary passed away within the past four months. The tribute includes the feelings and reflections of their colleagues, friends and children.

And don’t miss reading about National Tinnitus Awareness Week (May 15-21, 2011). This issue tells readers all about the 2011 Jack Vernon Walk to Silence Tinnitus, held in Portland, Oregon on June 25, 2011. The issue includes a research article titled, “Cortical Plasticity in Tinnitus,” by Shaowen Bao, Ph.D. and his team at the University of California, Berkeley.
