Phillip Gander, PhD
Neuroscientist, Department of Neurosurgery and Department of Otolaryngology
The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA
Dr Gander conducts research using brain imaging techniques to understand auditory cognition—how the brain makes sense of sound under normal conditions, as well as when they are disordered (e.g., hearing loss, cochlear implants, and tinnitus). He places a strong emphasis on communicating research via print, radio, and TV to the public, and translating basic scientific findings into benefit for patients. When not making discoveries about the brain or talking about it, Dr Gander is with his family biking, camping, or traveling.
