Associate Professor, Dept. of Physiology
University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ

Dr. Bao received his doctoral degree in neuroscience from University of Southern California, and postdoctoral training on central auditory plasticity at University of California San Francisco. Current research in his laboratory at University of Arizona focuses on mechanisms of tinnitus using animal models. Recent findings from his laboratory suggest that neuroinflammation may be related to overexcitation in the auditory pathway, possibly contributing to pathologies such as tinnitus and other central auditory processing deficits. The research team is looking for ways to prevent and reverse noise-induced neuroinflammation as an option for treatment of noise-induced tinnitus.
