The ATA will be funding a new service to the public by contracting with five (5) audiologists trained in tinnitus management to promptly return calls received at its headquarters that are clinical in nature.

Position: Tinnitus Advisor (Clinical)
Number: Recruiting for five (5) advisors
Qualifications: Ideally seeking audiologists who:
1) see at least 10 new patients a month that report/present bothersome tinnitus & have at least 5 years of clinical experience; or
2) have recently retired from a tinnitus-based practice.
a) Attend a 30-minute training program,
b) Listen to and provide encouragement to those persons who are in distress; need help in understanding types of tinnitus treatments and expected outcomes; need compassion when discussing their challenges and frustrations, and in some cases, referral to a tinnitus clinic in their geographical area and/or other healthcare professionals (e.g. CBT therapist) who may be able to help them.
c) Advisors will begin each call with a disclaimer:
My name is _________, returning your call to the American Tinnitus Association. I am a clinical audiologist by training. I will answer your questions to the best of my ability, but I am not able to make clinical recommendations or to provide judgments on the treatments you've had thus far. I cannot diagnose or treat your specific problem. With that disclaimer in mind, how may I help you?
* The purpose of the call is not to engage in a telehealth appointment, but to immediately affirm their distress and to swiftly provide support.

Hours: Flexible hours: Between 9:00 am-7:30 pm Eastern Time
Advisor selects the weekday of their choice (M, T, W, Th, or F) to answer and return calls that are clinical in nature, which are received on that specified day at the ATA headquarters.
Expect 1 ½ to 3 hours per day/evening, one day per week.
a) Promptly return calls on the day received at the ATA office,
b) Record time immediately after completing call in a time book to capture duration,
c) Short description of caller’s question and advisor’s recommendation/s to track caller concerns and build training/information booklet for staff and advisors.
Rate: $50/hour; billable in increments of 15 minutes.
Compensation is calculated by multiplying the applicable rate per hour by the total number of hours:
1-15 minutes = $12.50
16-30 minutes = $25.00
31-45 minutes = $37.50
46-60 minutes = $50.00
