A message from Dhyan Cassie, Au.D., Self-Help Group leader:
Last meeting we talked about methods to alleviate tinnitus that don't cost any or much money and may be things you have available. Here is a short list: deep breathing, lavender scent, trip to the beach (mountains, waterfalls), pleasant background sound, distraction with hobby, massage, apps on your smart phone with pleasant sound or distracting program, good diet and, of course, exercise.
This month we will talk about the power of positive thinking. Easier said than done when you are very bothered by head noise. Ah, but it can be done and we will talk about how. The brain is not so stubborn that it will hang on to a noxious sound when it can change and find pleasure instead. Start now to think of nice events and little (or big) joys. We'll lick tinnitus right where it hurts - it wants to be annoying but we'll beat it at its own game - in the brain's frontal cortex!
