From the group leader, Dhyan Cassie, AuD:
Dear Friends:
At our last meeting we reviewed the American Tinnitus Association’s guideline for when you need a referral to a specialist. Do you need an MRI to diagnose the cause of your tinnitus? Do you need to visit a dentist to get a bite-guard for your TMJ which may be causing your tinnitus? ATA has a guideline for referrals. If you weren’t at the meeting you can find it in your last Tinnitus Today Spring Edition Patient Navigator Guidelines.
As we know, we must educate the medical community on the importance of listening to the patient. Tinnitus can be debilitating and even more so when dismissed out-of-hand. September 8th we will talk about Tinnitus Management Based on Research Evidence. We will disprove the doctor who says “nothing can be done”. Research shows there is credible evidence-based clinical management of tinnitus. We will discuss that management at our meeting and remind our physicians that the Clinical Practice Guideline:Tinnitus is the guideline of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Foundation!
Hope to see you September 8!
