Join the Tinnitus Self-Help Group in Ewing, New Jersey on February 4, 2017 from 10:00am-11:30am.
A Note from the Group Leader:
Dear Friends -
Hoping this New Year brings you peace and, especially, quiet. Last meeting we discussed two options that have been presented as treatments for tinnitus.
Lipoflavonoid tablets are advertised frequently on television for tinnitus relief. They are frequently prescribed by physicians and are prominent on the Internet.
As we discussed the anatomy of the ear, the effect of the tablets and the reaction in the brain to tinnitus, we could see that there is essentially no validity for the use of lipoflavonoids except as a placebo.
The other treatment was Audio Notch therapy - eliminating the tinnitus frequency from tailored music thus permitting the tinnitus to blend in to the music. This technique is still being studied as to long- term results but it does seem to bring immediate relief. There are no side effects and can be relatively inexpensive.
For our coming meeting, we will discuss how to handle the complaint often heard that the physician or other health care worker has said, “You must go home and live with it.” How do we educate the doctor? How do we become our own advocate?
We can learn to take control and do some good for the physician as well as for ourselves.
