Our speaker/discussion leader will be Lisa Yuan, who is a new support group member who uses a cochlear implant. Cochlear implants are surgically implanted devices that restore the sensation of sound to the deaf and can also alleviate tinnitus symptoms. Lisa will give us personal insight into this technology. Also, through the Hearing Loss Association of America, Lisa is a member of the Network of Community Assistive Technology Trainers. She volunteers to speak to groups about hearing loss-related issues and share information about tools and resources. For example, soundless alerting devices (alarm clocks, telephones, doorbells, etc.) are useful to those with hyperacusis as well as those with hearing loss.
