Tinnitus Awareness Week 2017

This year’s Tinnitus Awareness Week will be celebrated February 6-12, 2017!

PORTLAND, ORE. – Today the American Tinnitus Association (ATA) announced today that February 6-12, 2017 is National Tinnitus Awareness Week (TAW)! Tinnitus, commonly referred to as “ringing in the ears,” affects nearly 45 million people in the United States and of those, 20 million have chronic tinnitus. Most commonly caused by exposure to loud noise, tinnitus is one of the most widespread underestimated health maladies in the world.

Join the ATA and the worldwide tinnitus and hyperacusis community in raising awareness about tinnitus! Send out emails, tweet your followers, share with your friends, knock on your neighbors’ doors,
spread the word! This campaign is a global effort.

The ATA knows that the best way to improve the lives of those with tinnitus is to Be Your Own BEST Advocate in the hope of providing a quieter future through education, advocacy, and research toward a cure!

“ATA is committed to raising the profile of tinnitus as well as raising funds to advance research toward new and better treatments for all tinnitus patients,” said Thomas J. Lobl, Ph.D., Chair of ATA’s Board of Directors. “This week is designated for the entire tinnitus community, patients and professionals alike to help increase the visibility of this condition that impacts so many lives worldwide. Our goal is to make sure that no single patient is told that they have to just live with their tinnitus,” said Lobl.

While there is no quick solution to tinnitus, there are management strategies that can provide relief. The American Tinnitus Association has developed a Patient Roadmap on its newly redesigned website that can help patients navigate the sometimes confusing path of tinnitus treatment. In addition ATA can help people get connected with tinnitus health professionals who can help devise a customized management strategy.

During Tinnitus Awareness Week the American Tinnitus Association will be engaging the tinnitus community through Social Media on its Facebook and Twitter pages. Helpful information and articles about tinnitus treatments and research will be posted to these pages every day during Tinnitus Awareness Week.
